While taking pictures with a digital camera at pastoral Tewin Bury Farm, a country retreat in Hertfordshire, UK, about half an hour from London,  Neil Sandbach captured what is arguably one of the best ghost photos in years.

Set along the river Mimram, five minutes from Welwyn Garden City, Tewin Bury Farm has been owned and operated by the Williams family since 1932. The property includes a 490-acre farm, a 31-bedroom country house hotel, the Tewin Bury Restaurant, and nine conference rooms, including the new Meadow Marquee that can accommodate up to 400 delegates for a meeting, a carriage company with several cars, and two fully renovated period buildings offering the perfect wedding venue.

Sandbach, a web designer from Leeds, was at the farm to photograph the wedding of his friends Jonathan and Nikki at the time he snapped the photo. He showed it to them prior to the wedding, and they inquired of the farm, without telling them of the photo, whether there were any reports of people seeing anything “spooky” at the farm.

“They went white and described what they and some cleaners had seen: the ghost of a young boy dressed in white night clothes, appearing close to the main barn,” Sandbach said, a fair description of what’s in the photo, taken at 4:52pm, the afternoon of January 1, 2006.

The Tythe Barn is 43 feet long by 26 feet wide, making the alleged ghost image proportional to normal human dimensions. The barn had undergone restoration several years ago, possibly accounting for the sightings, as construction work is known to rustle up the paranormal attributes of a location.

More details about the photo are available on the Flickr page for it on Sandbach’s portfolio. The color plate of this location is from a 2004 event not connected to the Sandbach photos.
