Jane Wells, a member of the WordPress developer team posted a haiku for the latest release candidate to the WP Development Blog today, in honor of RC3, what is hoped to be the final RC before the stable release of WordPress 3.0.

Last call; final bugs
Itch, scratch, contort; calmly wait
For now: RC3
Flickering Torches has been running the development version of WP all along, and delighted to report no significant problems with any of the release candidates.
It’s not all “Automattic”, however (referring to WP founder Matt Mullenweg’s company). As Wells said to plugin authors: “test your plugins!” That’s the one area that is routinely neglected in the development cycle, but it’s not WP’s fault. WP can only provide the platform. Some authors simply abandon their plugins, just as theme authors abandon their themes. But plugin issues can be more subtle. I’ve installed old plugins that worked, but caused something else on the site to fail. That’s evidence of a code conflict. It’s up to the 10,000 authors of plugins to make sure their software works with the new release.
At Flickering Torches, I am always careful to only use plugins that are in current development, or ones that I’m willing to hack myself to get them to work.
When WP 3.0 stable is released, be sure to upgrade. The new version provides a lot of upgrades we’ve all been wanting for a long time. Not everything, but definitely some good stuff. Plus a new default theme. Gotta love that!
